Nipuna Senaratne
Player

Blues: 2012, 2013, 2014

Colours:

Nipuna came to Cambridge with an impressive pedigree having featured heavily in the Eton 1st XI during his final years at school. An elegant stroke maker, Senaratne was promoted to bat number three ahead of Zafar Ansari in bizarre circumstances in the 2012 one-day Varsity match yet took full advantage to register a fluent half-century. His partnership with his captain Richard Timms laid the foundations for a Cambridge acceleration through the latter half of their innings , ultimately setting up the light blue victory.

Senaratne was included in the MCCU squad at the start of the 2013 season and played superbly in falling narrowly short of a century against an Essex attack including Mills, Masters and Napier on his first class debut. While second year medical exams took their toll and he was unable to reach those notable heights for the rest of the year, Nipuna continued to look good at the top of the order and will be keen to really kick on in 2014.
